Music

Music at Holy Spirit plays an essential part in our Sunday worship service and consists of a combination of both traditional and contemporary Episcopal/Anglican selections and American spiritual songs. Our music resources include the 1982 Hymnal, Lift Every Voice and Sing (LEVAS) Hymnal, Wonder Love and Praise (WLP), and the Gather hymnal. We also do renditions of contemporary praise by current artists.

When St. John’s and St. Andrew’s merged, it gave us a very special opportunity to share and learn what kinds of music each congregation felt connected to. This partnership helped us find common ground and then create our own distinctive sound as we emerged as Holy Spirit.

The Senior Choir has a dedicated core group of 10 members of all ages, and is led by Lynn Ljunggren, our music director and organist. We are blessed with many wonderful voices that also bring many other talents to the table. On any given Sunday, you can hear our beautiful pipe organ, guitar, piano, flute, drums, tambourine or the special instruments from our “Bucket-O-Praise” when the children of the congregation want to join in the fun.

We were very excited to receive the results of the CAT survey, which showed that the congregation was greatly pleased with the direction of the music at Holy Spirit. In fact, there were no negative comments or ideas for improvement noted in the survey. We believe that our diversity of music is one of the reasons for this positive response.

It is our goal to continue to include traditional as well as new music and we are blessed to have a congregation who is joyful and flexible enough to walk with us on this spiritual journey.

“Speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord” (Ephesians 5:19).
