Welcome
Mary Cook, a postulant for ordination to the deaconate and student in the regional School of Deacons, will be with us for the calendar year starting in January. Mary will also be with us on Sundays, preaching and serving in ministries, and exploring her deacon ministry with us.
Mary's Story
Hello Holy Spirit in Sutton! My name is Mary Cook, and I am a first-year Postulant in the Province One School for Deacons and am very blessed, honored and excited to be called to your parish community come January 2027! I will be with you for one year of field work while continuing my studies in preparation for Ordination to the Diaconate.
My home church is St. Francis in Holden, which has been my community of faith, strength, education, growth and comfort for the past 26 years. During these years, I have been commissioned and served as Parish Nurse. I have completed EfM (Education for Ministry), Loving the Questions, and Commission on Ministry. I have served on Vestry and currently participate in the Lay reading, LEM, LEV, and Missions Ministry with Dismas Farm.
I have worked as a Registered nurse for 30+ years in maternal/newborn, and pediatric healthcare with my last 13 years working in the NICU, caring primarily for the opioid-exposed infants. My nursing has also extended to the roles of substitute-school and camp nurse.
My husband, Steven, and I live in Holden with our fluffy kitty, Lila, and share six grown children and five grandchildren. I enjoy family gatherings, loop-weaving, sewing, knitting, reading, camping, and road trips. Together, Steven and I enjoy spending time in Truro, canoeing, and an occasional trip to Disney World!
I am looking forward to defining my role as Postulant while we get to know one another in God’s light as servants of His love, compassion and mercy. I pray together with you, by His grace and love, for direction and service to His wider communities.
